When you are watching the Winter Olympics over the next few weeks, watch out my friend Roberto Carcelen, one of three athletes from Peru ever to qualify and join Peru's first Olympic team to compete at the Winter Olympic games. I met Roberto two years ago when I joined a few running friends on a trail-running adventure across the Andes in the vicinity of Maccu Piccu.

Nicaragua: Managua and Coyotepe
Last December, I arrived in Managua in the early afternoon after an overnight flight from Buenos Aires via Miami after 3 weeks in South America. The Miami connection allowed me to call home on my cell phone without the international charges. The flight was less than 3 hours from Miami.

Peru 2008 Part 2, Start of the Trek
It’s been awhile, but now I get back to writing about this trip from 1.5 years ago to Peru. I have been delayed in part because so much happened on that trip it has been difficult to condense into reasonable story.

Hokahey 5k, Buenos Aires Edtion
The Hokahey 5k, a benefit run for my good friend Dan Keitz to help offset the costs associated with a diagnosis of ALS and CIDP, was held recently. Due to some last minute travel changes, I could not be at the Hokahey 5k race in Austin. So, after hearing there would be runners running the race remotely from Ohio, Vermont, and India, I put on the Buenos Aires International edition the race in honor of Dan on Saturday, Nov 14.

New York Marathon 2009
I traveled to New York to run the marathon a couple of weeks ago. I put myself in the lottery to gain entry early this year before I had decided what I wanted to do for the fall big run. By the time I got entry I was already in the middle of training for the Palo Duro 50k. Since I was not sure if my employment situation would allow me the time off to do this on the following year,

Palo Duro Trail Race 2009
Last weekend I ran the Palo Duro 50K trail race. There is not much of significance I can say worthy of an interesting race report. So I will keep the description short and just show some of the picture highlights. Those of you who have told me you just look at the pictures and skip the text will like this.

Sign up to run the Hokehay 5k
I would encourage everyone to come run the Hokahey 5k on November 14. This fundraiser is a benefit for my good friend Dan "Dano" Keitz, with whom I have been on several trail running expeditions over the last few years. Dano has been sidelined after

Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Run
I signed up for the PCTR Santa Cruz Mountains 29K during a trip to California to visit Yosemite National Park. My training plan for Palo Duro next month called for a long run this weekend, and since I could not run with my training group during the travel, I signed up for this supported race to use as my long training run. The 29K distance was shorter than my training plan called for, so I made plans to get in some extra miles before and after the event.
